TRACK
Summary & Objectives
The Tripod Analysis and Categorization Kit is an instrument developed at Leiden University. It is intended to help investigators to produce reliable analyses data on incidents in terms of Basic Risk Factors (BRFs).
Overview of the method:
The structure approach of the TRACK method guarantees that all areas of all BRFs are covered in the analysis. The method helps to identify the causes of incidents on the BRF-level by asking about sub-standard acts and their causes.
The end result of the analysis is a profile showing the relative contribution of each BRF. Next to this profile a list of identified latent failures will be presented along with the evidence found in the investigation upon which the identification is based.
Identification the sub-standard acts:
To find all sub-standard acts, the 'Leads to' checklist must be completed which contains about 60 'Yes' / 'No' / 'Investigate' questions that are indicative for the 11 BRFs. Every time a 'Yes' answer is given, a sub-standard act is identified. The cause of each sub-standard act than has to be determined by answering the relevant questions of the 'Caused by'-checklist. Course objectives are:
- Familiarization with BRFs
- Getting used to analyzing accidents at a strategic level
- Discuss deterministic versus probabilistic thinking in groups
- Work under serious time pressure
- Get to know the Tripod Track Tool and software
- Achieve 80% investigation results in a relative short time span
Benefits
- Method is based on Tripod’ BRF’s
- In one day you will learn a structured approach to map all BRF’s in the incident analysis.
