Summary & Objectives
NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. It is a 'competence-based' qualification: this means you gain your knowledge and experience on the job. Work-related tasks are designed to help you develop the necessary skills and knowledge to do your job effectively and with the underpinning knowledge needed to understand all processes and systems.

NVQ3 is a quality-based competence trajectory certified by OPITO. Successful completion of the NVQ3 process results in the internationally recognised POH3 (Processing Operations Hydrocarbons 3) certificate. The POH3 indicates generic and technical competence for a number of predetermined processes in which working with hydrocarbons is an important subject. The duration of the NVQ3 process differs per person, but will take up to a maximum of two years.
The generic competence to be proven relates to the monitoring and maintaining of health, environment and safety systems, the control of emergencies and critical situations and creating, maintaining and enhancing productive working relationships. The technical competence to be proven is related to preparation, start-up, operation, monitoring and shutdown of the integrated process systems and the isolation and reinstatement of process plant and equipment.
Benefits
The NVQ3 process is not a customary education; no classical sessions are organised. Future operators will gain experience and knowledge in the field, guided and supported on an everyday basis by a mentor inside the organisation. The future operators’ generic and technical competences will be assessed on the basis of the practical and theoretical evidence and experience gained in the predetermined processes. The formal assessments are directed and executed by certified assessors.
