Radiation protection supervisors
Job discription
The radiation protection supervisor has the responsibility to safeguard personnel, the installation and equipment during work where ionising radiation is expected. In the oil and gas industry situations with ionising radiation are expected with NORM contaminated installations or wells.
Duties
Duties include:
- Preparation of NORM work plans prior to project start up;
- Introduction to personnel working onsite regarding involved hazards and risks;
- Establishing and supervising controlled safe working areas during work involving ionising radiation;
- Establishing safe conditions for personnel with regards to protective equipment;
- Run tests regarding radiation levels on personnel, equipment and installation (contamination ,dose, dose tempo);
- Creating and supervising a decontamination area for equipment and personnel;
- Determine levels of contamination needed in order to make a decision for follow-up actions and transport;
- Preparation of transport documents in line with statute laws;
- Liaising with client and authorities.
